Debbie_HooperAbout Debby

I was born in Cheltenham and have lived here for most of my life

I started painting in 2004 in Watercolour, when I joined an Art Group at my local village Hall, having not painted or drawn anything since my schooldays (many years ago!).

I quickly realised that pastels were my preferred medium and I was taught the basics in landscape painting, by the tutor.  I soon found that animals were my forte and have since painted hundreds of dogs, cats, wildlife etc. I love all animals, especially dogs, so I never tire of painting them.

I paint on (pastel) sandpaper and also velour and use soft pastels as a base and use pastel pencils to add detail, as I’ve found that gives a more realistic look.  I have had no formal training and have developed my own style over the last few years.

I exhibit at the Cheltenham Open Air Exhibition every year and I am a member of the committee.  I also exhibit at Picturseque Gallery in Bourton on the Water, where I sell my work and take commissions for portraits.

I am also member of various Art Clubs and Societies in the local area where I exhibit along with fellow members in various locations, throughout the year. The details of this year’s exhibitions can be found on the Forthcoming Exhibitions tab if you would like to come and see my work.

I still attend the local village Art Group of which I am now the secretary. I also do a little tutoring on pastels, at my home, with fellow artists that want to give them a try.
